Corpus Christi, ecclesiastical Latin for "Body of Christ" is a coastal city on in South Texas. It is the county seat and largest city in Nueces County, also extending into Aransas, Kieberg and San Patricio counties. In 2019 it was the 8th most populous city in Texas with an estimated population of 326,586. The Port of Corpus Christi is the 5th largest in the US. Spanish explorer Alonso Álvarez de Pineda in 1519, as he discovered the lush semitropical bay on the Western Christian feast day of Corpus Christi.
The USS Lexington, nicknamed the Blue Ghost, is an Essex-class aircraft carrier built during World War II for the US Navy. Since 1992, the ship has been docked in Corpus Christi where she now operates as a museum. The USS Lexington was also part of the set for the 2001 film Pearl Harbor. Corpus Christi has been the set for other movies including Tilt, The Legend of Billie Jean, Target, Knight Rider 2000, Selena, The King, and The Open Road. The USS Lexington is as tall as a 19 story building and as long as three New York city blocks. It's so large, you could play 3 football games at the same time on its flight deck! The USS Lexington was the first aircraft carrier to have women crew members in US Naval History, and the ship served longer than any other Essex Class carrier in the world.
The city is accessed by two major bridges, the Harbor Bridge (US 181) and the John F. Kennedy Causeway (PR 22).
