This is a beautifully detailed, laser engraved and precision cut topographical Map of Lake Murray in Lexington, Newberry, Saluda and Richland Counties, South Carolina with the following interesting stats carved into it:
- Max Length: 41 Miles
- Max Width: 14 Miles
- 50,000 Surface Acres
- Max Depth: 200 Feet
- 500 Miles of Shoreline
- The Dreher Shoals Dam was completed in 1930. At that time it held the world’s record of the largest earthen dam, in turn, creating the world’s largest man-made reservoir. Lake Murray is named after the projects chief engineer William S. Murray.
Interesting factoid: Since its construction, Lake Murray has been the focal point of the region. Many different communities in four counties are all tied to the lake, and the local history has as much to do with the lake as the lake has to do with the local history. Considering Lake Murray now covers an area that was once populated, the story of what lies beneath its surface is the story of Lake Murray itself.
(Not all of this information made it onto the map, we just love to read up on the lakes we design).
