This is a beautifully detailed, laser engraved and precision cut topographical Map of St. Simons Island in Glynn County Georgia with the following interesting stats carved into it:
- St. Simons has 16.6 Sq Miles of land and 1.3 Miles of water
- St. Simons Island is the largest of Georgia's renowned "Golden Isles" (along with Sea Island), Jekyll Island and Little St Simons Island.
- Little St. Simons Island covers an area of 10,000 acres and boasts 7 miles of beaches. The island has been privately owned since 1760.
Interesting factoid: The original St. Simons Lighthouse, built in 1811, was destroyed by Confederate troops in 1861 to prevent its use by Union sailors. Rebuilt in 1872, it continues to operate today, owned by the Coastal Georgia Historical Society and maintained by the Coast Guard Auxiliary. Visitors may climb the 129 steps to the observatory for panoramic views of the ocean, nearby islands and the mainland. (Not all of this information made it onto the map, we just love to read up on the lakes we design).
