This is a beautifully detailed, laser engraved and precision cut Map of Upper Mission Lake and Lower Mission Lake in Crow Wing County, Minnesota with the following interesting stats carved into it:
- Upper Mission Lake is 874 acres in size. It is approximately 36 feet deep at its deepest point. Lower Mission Lake is 732 acres with a maximum depth of 27 feet.
Interesting factoid: The Mission Lakes were named by a German Lutheran Minister, Rev. Ottomar Cloeter, of Saginaw Valley, Michigan. His Synod decided to establish in 1857 a mission station near what is now Lower Mission Lake. He ministered to a small band of Chippewa Indians in a nearby village. His letters to his Synod reveal what extraordinary hardships he faced. He and his family lived in constant fear that the Indians would kill them. In 1862 they were forced to flee for their lives because of an Indian uprising started by Chief Hole-in-the-Day. The Mission was destroyed in this uprising. (Not all of this information made it onto the map, we just love to read up on the lakes we design).
