Hand turned, signed and numbered by artist Brian Butler. This particular hat is turned out of Walnut with a detailed band of black rope, walnut casings and a silver medallion. Each hat starts as a 60 to 70 pound hunk of wet wood such as ambrosia maple, chestnut, white oak, birch or beech. Using his lathe he begins turning, reducing the wood to a bowl-shape about 1/8 inch thick. Once the hat is shaped and dried over a period of several days it weighs less than a pound. The brim of this hat is approximately 15 1/4" x 14" with a crown depth of 5 3/4". Size 24-1/4. Stand not included.
